Sunday Post

Three men have been detained over "terror talk" on an airplane:

Three British men are being held over suspicious conversations held on board a UK-bound easyJet flight.

The pilot decided to land after passengers told airline staff the men used words including "bomb" and "explosive", the German newspaper Bild reported.

Flight EZY3246 had been on its way from Ljubljana, Slovenia, to Stansted on Saturday night and was forced to divert to Cologne, Germany.

Led by Islamists, thousands in Morocco protest  corruption:

Thousands of Moroccans led by an Islamist movement rallied in the capital Rabat on Sunday in a massive show of support for protests against corruption and official abuses in a northern region that have tested authorities for weeks.

If there is anyone whose character one can certainly trust, it's an Islamist.

As long as there are unions powerful enough to sway elections and idiots who vote according to be contrary, Wynne will still be premier:

For many Ontarians, that moment must have come when Finance Minister Charles Sousa asked Ontarians in his April 27 budget speech to, “imagine what we can do now” that the Wynne government has a balanced budget.

Ditto when Premier Kathleen Wynne said the balanced budget will enable the government to focus on new spending to make society fairer.

Never mind that Ontario’s independent, non-partisan spending watchdog, Financial Accountability Officer Stephen LeClair, says the government’s balanced budget is a mirage, created in large part due to one-time asset sales and that over the long term, the Liberals will have to raise taxes or cut services to keep it balanced.

Never mind that LeClair described the government’s plan to rebate hydro rates by 25% as, “a complicated accounting structure that will increase gross debt by approximately $26 billion by 2027-28, but does not impact the Province’s net debt due to the creation of a regulatory/investment asset.”

And that: “If the creation of the regulatory/investment asset does not meet with public sector accounting standards, then the Province’s annual surplus/deficit would deteriorate by a total of $26 billion over the next 11 years ...”

Never mind that while the Liberals boast about having invested billions of dollars upgrading the province’s electricity system, Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk, another independent, non-partisan, spending watchdog, said in her 2015 annual report that between 2010 and 2014, Hydro One customers experienced 24% more power outages, lasting 30% longer, while costs to run the system increased by 31%.

And that Hydro One is “consistently one of the least reliable among large Canadian electricity distributors” with a maintenance backlog that increased by 47%, and power outages by 7%, between 2012 and 2014.

And that, the risk of power failures was increasing because Hydro One hadn’t replaced $4.5 billion in transmission assets, “that have exceeded their planned useful service life”.

Now consider the reality of patients admitted to overcrowded hospitals through emergency rooms who are spending days on stretchers in hallways, because there’s no where else for them to go.
Consider Toronto’s crumbling social housing with its $2.6 billion repair backlog.

Or the $3.4 billion backlog in repairs to Toronto’s public schools.

While these problems existed prior to the Liberals taking power in 2003, the point is, they all got worse during the nine consecutive years they were saddling Ontarians with more deficits and debt in order to, they claimed, maintain public services.

So the Wynne government’s real promise, apparently, is to address the same problems with a balanced budget that their years of deficit financing didn’t address.

Oh, you recognised the description?

A billboard on the east side of Indianapolis is catching the eyes of drivers, along with the ire of local Muslim groups. ...

This one.

“I was a little disappointed when I saw that,” said Farial Khatri of the Islamic Society of North America.

Opponents say the billboard’s bullet points are meant to disparage the Muslim faith and its primary prophet, Muhammad.

These best way to combat this is with the truth.

According to this, Aisha was six years old when Mohammad married her:

The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became Allright, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "Best wishes and Allah's Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age.

Okay, but what about slavery?

So enjoy what you have gotten of booty in war, lawful and good, and be afraid of Allah. Certainly, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

O Prophet! Say to the captives that are in your hands: "If Allah knows any good in your hearts, He will give you something better than what has been taken from you, and He will forgive you, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

But if they intend to betray you (O Muhammad), they have already betrayed Allah before. So He gave (you) power over them. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise.

Mass murder?

The Banu Qurayza, compelled to surrender, descended from their stronghold and were led to Medina. The men, their hands pinioned behind their backs, were put in a court (dar) in Medina; the women and children are said to have been put in another one. When the Prophet was asked by people of Aus, who were allies of Qurayza, to show leniency towards their allies the Qurayza, he proposed to appoint as arbiter a man from Aus , Sadb.Muadh. Qurayza consented and so did the attending Muslims; among the Muslims were, of course, the Aus who in turn began to intercede with Sad for Qurayza; Sad'sharsh answer was a bad omen for the fate of Qurayza. When all the Parties agreed to abide by the judgment of Sa'd he gave his concise verdict: the men shall be put to death, the women and children sold into slavery, the spoils divided among the Muslims. The Prophet ratified the judgment and stated that Sad's decree had been issued as a decree of God pronounced from above the Seven Heavens. Accordingly some 400 (or 600, or 700, or 800, or even 900) men from Qurayza were led on the order of the Prophet to the market of Medina; trenches were dug in the place, the men were executed and buried in the trenches. The Prophet attended the executions, which were carried out by CAlI and al-Zubayr. Youths who had not reached maturity were spared. Women and children were sold into slavery; a number of them were distributed as gifts among the Companions.

Hhmmm ... this isn't looking good for those a trifle upset with this billboard. A book they claim is the literal truth has literally validated all the things on that billboard.

What do they have to fall back on?

These guys:

Religious leaders throughout Central Indiana have denounced an anti-Muslim billboard that disparages the Prophet Muhammad and "stokes fear and anger toward his followers."

The men and women of different faiths sat side by side during a news conference Friday at the Indiana Interchurch Center in Indianapolis. They condemned the billboard and called for religious tolerance and understanding.

"This particular instance may be against Muslims," said John Clark, an Evangelical Christian who is director of development for the Center for Interfaith Cooperation, "but if anyone is threatened or vulnerable, we all are."

What exactly is threatening about the truth?

Oh, yes. A religion founded on bloodshed and still abides it isn't at all appealing.
