For a Tuesday

Yep...

An Ontario farmer gets a chance to hear Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne lie to her face:

Libby Keenan’s Facebook rant over soaring hydro costs has prompted a face-to-face meeting with Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne this Wednesday at Queen’s Park.

Not many people get a chance to hear lies upfront, Miss Keenan. How lucky for you.

Also: this must be embarrassing:

The Fraser Institute report, Did the Coal Phase-out Reduce Air Pollution, looked at the impact of closing the plants on the level of fine particulates, nitrogen oxides and ground-level ozones in Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa.

The small and, in some cases, statistically insignificant improvements in air quality in a few locations could have been achieved more cheaply with pollution control devices like scrubbers, the report concluded.

And to think that it cost Ontarians $1.1 billion to close gas plants and then to lie about it.

Whatever could Trudeau be hiding?

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau twice refused to answer questions Tuesday about whether he had ever before vacationed with the Aga Khan, the billionaire leader of the world’s Ismaili Muslims.

But... but... people said that there would be no slippery slope!

Euthanasia became legal in Canada in June and by December Quebec bioethicists had already published an article in the Journal of Medical Ethics calling for organ donation after euthanasia.

Britain decides to leave the European Union, an experiment in centraisation that just didn't pan out:

Theresa May set out a 12-point plan for Brexit on Tuesday as she promises there will be no “partial” membership of the EU “that leaves us half-in, half-out”.

Making her most significant speech since becoming Prime Minister in July, May confirmed that Britain will leave the single market and customs union after Brexit.

Inside the flat of a killer:

Abdulkadir Masharipov confessed to carrying out the Istanbul nightclub massacre, Turkish officials said

Neighbours of the Istanbul nightclub attacker were shocked to learn of his identity and find their building at the heart of a large-scale police operation.

On Monday night, Turkish police captured the man who authorities say killed 39 people and wounded scores of others in a New Year’s Eve attack on the Reina nightclub in Istanbul. The attack was claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

The suspect, who switched clothes during the attack, fled the scene by blending into the crowd of survivors. He succeeded in evading police for more than two weeks, reportedly collecting his son in a working class neighbourhood of Istanbul before hiding out in a luxury apartment at another low-income district. …

AP reporters visited the suspect’s apartment on Tuesday, finding doors with broken locks, food and garbage on the floor and clothes outside of the closets. They also saw a woman’s purse and money of various currencies including Egyptian and Sudanese pounds. A Reuters photos showed a Koran sitting on top of a cabinet.

A note found at the scene said: “Do what ever u want… I will not care anymore and I can’t help any one of course I can’t help myself. But if you want this it’s okay but I will be in other place away from her (sic).”

Authorities seized nearly $200,000, two guns and two drones during the suspect’s arrest.

Obama commutes the sentence of pretend-woman Bradley Manning:

President Barack Obama commuted the prison sentence of Chelsea Manning on Tuesday, allowing the Army intelligence officer who leaked scores of classified documents to go free nearly three decades early.
Manning, who will leave prison in May, was one of 209 inmates whose sentences Obama was shortening, a list that includes Puerto Rican nationalist Oscar Lopez-Rivera. Obama also pardoned 64 people, including retired Gen. James Cartwright, who was charged with making false statements during a probe into disclosure of classified information.

But everyone knows that you're a traitor and liar, Brad, just like the other guys that Obama released.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't want to have a lazy Jew-hating blowhard at my golf course, either:

Some members of the historically Jewish club have said they would not welcome Obama, who has played there four times during his presidency, because of his recent decision not to veto a UN Security Council resolution criticizing Israeli settlements.

Also: Christians are leaving Bethlehem and it's not because of anything Israel did:

Christians living in Israel enjoy the same democratic human laws as all other non-Jewish citizens; their community is consistently increasing as they experience the freedom of the Jewish State. Before providing any assistance to the Palestinian Authority or rushing to create another Arab state on historical Jewish land, the West should put pressure on Arab leaders to assure democratic human rights, security, equality and freedom for the Christian community and the Jews who might live under their control.

PM Hair-Boy refused to call honour-killings "barbaric":

Zeenat Rafiq had been married to her husband for just one week when her mother showed up at the couple’s home in June offering to throw them a wedding celebration.

It must have been strange for the 18-year-old Pakistani woman. Her mother, Perveen Bibi, had never approved of her relationship with Hassan Khan, a classmate. Nor had other members of the family, who had rejected multiple marriage proposals from her husband before the couple eloped.

But now, all was forgiven, her mother told her. Come home to celebrate so you’re not branded as an eloper.

Rafiq nervously agreed.

But there was no celebration on her return to the family’s home in Lahore, Pakistan. Instead, her mother and brother beat and strangled her, then tied her to a cot, doused her in kerosene and lit her on fire, according to reports at the time.

After the attack, Bibi ran outside and yelled, “I have killed my daughter for misbehaving and giving our family a bad name,” the mother’s sister told Agence France-Presse at the time.

North Korea is stockpiling plutonium:

North Korea's plutonium stockpile has grown to some 50 kg, enough to make two or three more nuclear weapons, according to South Korea's 2016 defense white paper.

The white paper issued by the Defense Ministry on Wednesday carries latest information on the North Korean military, including its nuclear, missile and conventional military capacities. It says the North has about 50 kg of weapons-grade plutonium from reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel rods.

The amount is calculated by tallying the plutonium acquired from the reactor at the Yongbyon nuclear facility, which reopened in 2013 and subtracting the plutonium spent on recent nuclear tests, a military spokesman said. It was estimated jointly by the U.S. and South Korea.

The white paper also notes that the North "has made significant progress in a highly enriched uranium program and miniaturizing nuclear warheads," but gives no specific data.

The ministry previously estimated the North's plutonium stockpile at 40 kg since 2008 but has come under fire for making no efforts to change that estimate despite two more nuclear tests since then and the reopening of the Yongbyon reactor.
The white paper also notes the North's deployment of new 300-mm multiple rocket launchers with a range of some 200 km, which are capable of striking the U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeryongdae military headquarters in South Chungcheong Province from the demilitarized zone.

It also notes new Scud-ER missiles with a range of 1,000 km. The North fired three of them toward Japan on Sept. 5 last year. The Scud-ER could be capable of delivering nuclear warheads to any target in South Korea from the rear. The most effective defense is believed to be the U.S. Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense battery planned for deployment here.

The white paper says the North has an intercontinental ballistic missile in development that could threaten the U.S. mainland and is developing submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

And now, fun passports:
