But Wait! There's More!

There usually is...

China is setting up military posts on disputed islands in the South China Seas:

“China does not intend to pursue militarization,” Xi said, referring to the area as the Nansha Islands, a Chinese name for what most of the rest of the world calls the Spratlys in the South China Sea.

The most recent satellite photographs suggest a different plan. The photos, collected and scrutinized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington-based research organization, show the construction of what appear to be reinforced aircraft hangars at Fiery Cross, Subi and Mischief reefs, all part of the disputed territories.

I'm sorry, Mayor Taue, but North Korea does not feel as you do:

Nagasaki Mayor Tomihisa Taue on Tuesday urged the international community to draw upon its “collective wisdom” to free the world of nuclear weapons as the city marked the 71st anniversary of its atomic bombing by the United States.

North Korea's official Rodong Sinmun on Wednesday published eight photos related to the launch of three ballistic missiles on Tuesday. They show North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sitting behind a desk with a map of the Korean Peninsula draped over it showing the trajectories of Scud C and Rodong missiles and their intended targets in the East Sea along with curved lines encompassing Busan and Ulsan.

The daily said the latest launch aimed to practice pre-emptive nuclear strikes on South Korean ports and airports.

That hand-wringing doesn't work in Asia, as well you should know.

Tim Hudak is leaving political office to be the CEO of Ontario Real Estate Association:

Former Progressive Conservative leader Tim Hudak will resign his seat in the legislature next month and become CEO of the Ontario Real Estate Association.

Hudak, who was first elected in 1995 at the age of 27, says after 21 years in provincial politics it’s time to make a change, so he’ll step down from his Niagara West-Glanbrook seat on Sept. 16.

I suspect that he is distancing himself from the political and economic failure that Ontario has become.

You voted for it, Ontario.

This must be embarrassing:

WPTV happened to notice the man, who has a mustache and was wearing a red hat, behind Clinton. It was Seddique Mateen, the father of Orlando mass shooter Omar Mateen. ...

"Hillary Clinton is good for United States versus Donald Trump, who has no solutions," he said.

And this:

And certainly this:

Clinton was the rapist's defense lawyer, pleading him down to 'unlawful fondling of a minor'

The 41-year-old drifter served less than a year in prison

The plea came after Clinton was able to block the admission of forensic evidence that linked her client to the crime

Shelton says she's furious that Clinton has been portraying herself as a lifelong advocate of women and girls on the campaign trail

Clinton accused Shelton of 'seeking out older men' in the case and demanded that she undergo a grueling court-ordered psychiatric examination

The presidential candidate later laughed while discussing aspects of the case in a recently-unearthed audiotaped interview from the 1980s.

What is more disgusting: that despicable b!#ch Hillary Clinton or the people who would vote for her?

Discuss.

(Gracias)

"Trail-blazing" hijab-wearer who probably dabbles in fencing has been eliminated from individual competition in the summer Olympics:

New Jersey Olympian Ibtihaj Muhammad, the first Hijab-wearing athlete to compete for America, has been eliminated from individual competition in her round-of-16 match against France’s Cecelia Berder.

Oh, burn!

But... but... Harper hated scientists!

A police investigator in Ottawa quits when an unvetted officer was hired:

On the same day Abdirahman Abdi was pronounced dead, Ottawa police moved to hire a Somali-Canadian man who had failed a background check, prompting the civilian investigator in charge of vetting officers to resign, Postmedia has learned.

On July 25, just after 3 p.m. Abdi, 37, was pronounced dead in hospital after being arrested by police the day before on the steps of his Hilda Street apartment building. On the same day as his death, the decision was made to offer a job to an applicant.

In a letter of resignation, obtained by the Postmedia, sent by civilian background investigator Christina Benson, Benson alleged the applicant was an “unsuitable” police candidate and that his hiring “is being done for political reasons to appease the Somali community.”

Chief Charles Bordeleau told the Postmedia he approved the hiring of 19 new officers during a previously scheduled meeting on July 26. The Postmedia has learned that the approved list of candidates sent by the recruiting section did not initially include the applicant. All police candidates are presented to the chief, who is responsible for signing off on their hiring.

A reading from the Book of Armaments:

Hey, Sweden, way to pull your weight:

An Evangelical church in Sweden wants to use drones to drop thousands of electronic bibles over parts of Iraq controlled by Islamic State.

The Word of Life (Livets Ord) group says it wants to spread a message of hope to “closed” areas of the Middle East.

Is this move in hopes that when the restive masses move to the welfare state of Sweden they will be more amenable?

Hey, remember when special-interest groups pushed for gay marriage, they scoffed at the idea that this would evolve into polygamy?

Following the introduction of civil partnerships, Muslim representatives in Italy are now demanding the legalisation of polygamy.

North Korean weight-lifter will take home the silver medal:

North Korean weightlifter Om Yun-chol apologized for failing to be a "hero" to his people on Sunday, when he came second in the men's 56-kg category at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. ...

It was North Korea's first stab at a gold medal in Rio. The powerful Workers Party Secretary Choe Ryong-hae was there to cheer Om on but left the stadium in a huff when Long's win was confirmed.

(Sidebar: gee, that's high praise for your owners, North Korea.)

"I got nothing to say because my performance says it all," a crestfallen Om told reporters. "The [North Korean] people's support really gave me a lot of energy, but it's a pity that I didn't perform well."

He vowed to go for gold again in the next summer Olympics in Japan in 2020.

When asked if he is treated as a hero in the North, Om said no because he let his people down.

This poor man is as good as dead.

And now, the New Jersey shark attacks in 1916 that terrified the Eastern seaboard:

While it is unclear how many sharks were involved, Harlem taxidermist and Barnum and Bailey lion tamer Michael Schleisser caught a 7.5 foot, 325 pound shark while fishing in Raritan Bay only a few miles from the mouth of Matawan Creek on July 14, 1916. When he opened the shark's belly, he removed a "suspicious fleshy material and bones" that took up "about two-thirds of a milk crate" and "together weighed fifteen pounds." Scientists identified the shark as a young Great White and the ingested remains as human.
