Friday Post

Lots to talk about....

Five police officers were murdered by a racist in Dallas, Texas, including one officer who had only been married two weeks prior:

An Army veteran killed by Dallas police after the sniper slayings of five officers during a protest march refused to surrender and told authorities that he was upset about the police shootings of two black men earlier this week and wanted to exterminate whites, “especially white officers,” officials said Friday.

The man identified as 25-year-old Micah Johnson was among the suspects in the attack that marked the deadliest day for U.S. law enforcement since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. In all, 12 officers were shot.

Johnson was a private first class from the Dallas suburb of Mesquite with a specialty in carpentry and masonry. He served in the Army Reserve for six years starting in 2009 and did one tour in Afghanistan from November 2013 to July 2014, the military said.

After the attack, he tried to take refuge in a parking garage and exchanged gunfire with police, who later killed him with a robot-delivered bomb, Police Chief David Brown said.

But before his death, he described his motive during negotiations and said he acted alone and was not affiliated with any groups, Brown said.

Brown blamed “snipers” for Thursday’s attack, but it was unclear how many shooters were involved.

Authorities initially said three suspects were in custody and the fourth dead. Hours later, officials were vague and would not discuss details.

Johnson killed veterans like himself.

What a total waste.

The Black Lives Matter movement must be licking its racist lips.

The Rebel gets results:

A lack of support, including access to full-time translators, led to what frantic staff called "communication breakdowns" and culture clashes between Syrian refugee students, classmates, and teachers at a New Brunswick high school this year.

(Sidebar: no, it's more than that. It's more like contempt for the infidel.)

More than 2,700 pages of documents reviewed by The Canadian Press detail the concerns of overwhelmed educators as they dealt with a sudden influx of students who didn't speak English, may have been out of school for years, observed different religious practices, and came from war-affected countries.

The documents were obtained by The Rebel, a right-wing news outlet, through access to information, and their authenticity was confirmed by the school district on Thursday.

(Sidebar: get a wet blanket and a skin graft for the CBC because it just got burned.)

"We are living in a province where there are no official EAL (English as an alternative language) courses for high school, no alternate programming for war-affected youth, no personnel that have designated roles, like translator-interpreters, for example to help us settle youth down, make them feel at ease and help them navigate a whole new set of cultural and social norms," wrote Chantal Lafargue, the department head for international students at Fredericton High School, in an email on March 30, 2016.

That followed an earlier email in which she said that while educators from across New Brunswick were reaching out to her for advice, she didn't have a voice at the provincial table "where the gaps and mechanisms of support are to be identified."

The documents repeatedly cite issues of tardiness and absenteeism among the 29 Syrian students at FHS and cultural confusion about gender roles. Some teachers complained about students refusing to speak English and using "peer pressure" to deter others who were trying.

In another email, a teacher described an incident in class where a student was asked by some of the Syrian students to repeat a line in Arabic. When he did, it prompted snickering and laughing from the Arabic-speaking students. The teacher said another student told her that the line included foul language directed at a student from Israel.

Lafargue also described an incident during a class discussion when a Syrian boy talked about RPGs — or rocket propelled grenades — and made loud noises and hand gestures. In a statement, David McTimoney, the school district superintendent, said a translator indicated it was a topic that "horrified" the boy.

Other teachers described behavioural issues and younger students feeling intimidated by the older, non-English speaking students from Syria.

(Sidebar: this pile of total rot sounds awfully familiar. It's like people would rather blame this whole mess on a few misunderstandings than run-of-the-mill infidel hatred. Oh, yes - that's exactly what this is. Cologne, c'est nous.)

The Canadian popular press must be humiliated and horrified that an independent body reported (and in detail) stuff they would never touch with a thirty-foot barge pole. Not even to get out ahead of independent bodies covering yet another failure of political multiculturalism would the popular press cover this with all the objectivity this subject deserves.

That's why news agencies should go under. Mouthpieces can get better business on street corners.

Four hundred and fifty troops will be sent to Latvia:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced at the NATO leaders' summit in Poland on Friday that Canada will take command of a 1,000-strong multinational force in Latvia, as the alliance beefs up its presence in the Baltics and Poland in response to recent Russian actions.

Speaking on the sidelines of the summit, defence chief Gen. Jonathan Vance revealed that Canada will send about 450 soldiers along with armoured vehicles to the Baltic state as part of an "enduring" NATO presence in Eastern Europe.

The Canadians will form the "nucleus" of a battle group in Latvia, Vance said, that with the addition of forces from other allies, is expected to grow to about 1,000 troops. Germany, the United States and Britain are leading similar forces in Lithuania, Poland and Estonia.

Allies are expected to begin announcing contributions at a conference next week, while officials indicated the first Canadian troops could begin arriving in Latvia early next year.

That's nice. Then what will happen? Does Trudeau have a long-term plan? If so, he should say it to Putin's face.

Justin Trudeau, who inappropriately shows up and touches women not married to him and takes self-photos at funerals, who supports China which does this:

Mei-ming has lain this way for 10 days now: tied up in urine-soaked blankets, scabs of dried mucus growing across her eyes, her face shrinking to a skull, malnutrition slowly shrivelling her two-year old body. The orphanage staff call her room the "dying room", and they have abandoned here for the very same reasons her parents abandoned her shortly after she was born. She is a girl.

When Mei-ming dies four days later, it will be of sheer neglect. Afterward, the orphanage will deny she ever existed. She will be just another invisible victim of the collision between China's one-child policy and its traditional preference for male heirs. She is one of perhaps 15 million female babies who have disappeared from China's demographics since the one-child-per-family policy was introduced in 1979.

And this:

Some young North Korean women who manage to slip over the border into China end up being sold into marriage by brokers specialising in human trafficking. Some of them are raped and beaten by their new husbands and if they complain they can be sent back to North Korea where they could face being thrown into a prison camp, or even death.

...who refused to call practices like honour-killing "barbaric":

Liberal MP Justin Trudeau said the government should not call honour killings "barbaric" in a study guide for would-be Canadian citizens.

... but did call prioritising Iraqi Christian and Yazidi refugees who would be sold as sex slaves "disgusting":

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper is insisting that while his government’s refugee policy focuses on the most vulnerable religious and ethnic groups, it does not do so at the expense of others.

Speaking at a campaign event in Richmond, B.C., Harper says Canada’s resettlement policy is focused on those minorities from Syria and Iraq that are being targeted by militants in the Middle East.

But he insists it’s not exclusionary, nor biased towards Christians.

He says Muslim minorities are also being targeted by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIL or ISIS.

Earlier today, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau angrily denounced the Prime Minister’s Office for what he characterizes as politically motivated interference in the refugee application and approval process.

Trudeau says the PMO was making sure it could take political advantage of those families that were being accepted, something he calls “disgusting.”

... went to New York to receive an award for being a feminist:

The fat, white, selfish, dateless, gated community of self-centred Western women thank you, PM Trulander.

Also: exploit them while they're young!

Two of the prime minister's kids have popped up in a clothing retailer's social media campaign.

But Canadian retailer Joe Fresh didn't strike a deal with Justin Trudeau before putting a Canada Day picture of the children in a paid-for Facebook post celebrating what they were wearing.

Instead, the photo came from the prime minister's official account on the photo sharing site Flickr, where his official photographer routinely posts pictures of Trudeau's personal and professional life.

The photo shows Trudeau, his wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and their two children, Xavier and Ella-Grace, holding hands in front of the stage that was set up on Parliament Hill. Both children are wearing items for sale on Joe Fresh's website.

The company subsequently took the image and plunked it into a sponsored Facebook post, ensuring it would be seen online, writing underneath it was happy and honoured the kids celebrated the holiday weekend wearing its clothes.

They repeated that message when asked by The Canadian Press whether they were deliberately trying to boost their brand with Trudeau's star power.

"We're always pleased when Canadians choose to wear Joe Fresh, including the Trudeau family," the director of public relations Nicole Plener said in a statement.

For its part, the Prime Minister's Office does not take issue with the company's use of the photo.

Yes, but you voted for this hydro increase, Ontario:

It's only the beginning of summer and Toronto Hydro is already urging customers to reduce their electricity consumption.

But some Ontarians are adamant that they're doing everything they can to lower their electricity bill and are still feeling the pinch.

"Everybody is feeling it," said Johnny Karas, co-owner of Saturday Dinnette restaurant. "The hydro price has gone up literally overnight."

There's no air conditioning or fancy electronics in Karas's small diner, only a refrigerator and a rarely-used oven.

"All these little things you've had to adjust," Karas said as a ceiling fan spins overhead.

The restaurant owner told CBC News he just paid his hydro bill and it's $100 higher than it was last time.

"We can't pass on those prices," he added. "So we have to wear that cost."

Toronto Hydro spokesperson Tori Gass acknowledged customers are becoming very good at conserving energy and are serious about reducing consumption.

"We're leading the pack in conservation," Gass said.

The murderers of Tim Bosma want to appeal their conviction:

Dellen Millard and Mark Smich, convicted of first-degree murder in the high-profile killing of Tim Bosma, complain their marathon trial was unfair in handwritten notices from jail that seek an appeal of their convictions.

Millard’s notice of appeal, befitting the wealthy and spoiled heir of a struggling aviation dynasty, is lengthy, formal and regimented. The notice by Smich, an unemployed drug dealer and aspiring rap artist, is just two simple sentences.

Millard and Smich both request to argue their appeals at the Court of Appeal for Ontario in person and, if granted a new trial, request another jury trial, instead of trial before a judge alone.

Reveal her name before she is released and would do it again:

Jeffery Longman says that his grandson, Nikosis Cantre, died of a blunt force trauma to the head.

The six-week-old boy was rushed to hospital Sunday morning. A 16-year-old girl is in custody, charged with second degree murder.

Police were called to a house in Saskatoon, on Waterloo Crescent at 7 a.m. CST on Sunday with reports of an injured toddler. The teen was charged with murder later that day.

Longman said Nikosis's mother, Alyssa Bird, had gone out to buy breakfast that morning. She left the baby in the care of her older sister, Larissa.

The teen, who the family had only met the day before, was also in the house.

"When she got back, she noticed that the girl was coming out of the infant's room. That's when she noticed, like why is she coming out of my baby's room, I'm gonna go check," Longman said.

The baby was unresponsive and barely breathing, he said.
They called 9-1-1.

Police have not said how the baby died.
