Mid-Week Post

As the globe spins... or something...

A Mountie in British Columbia is in critical condition after being shot:

An officer who was shot during a traffic stop in Kamloops, B.C., is in critical but stable condition and has provided Mounties with helpful information, says a senior Mountie.

Iran could let ISIS wear out the West but probably doesn't want to take any chances with fanatics crazier than their ayatollahs:

The United States has indications that Iran has carried out air strikes on Islamic State targets in Iraq in recent days in what appeared to be the first such operations by Iran's air force, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.

A senior Iranian official denied that Iran had launched any such strikes.

U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the United States had indications that Iran had used F-4 Phantoms to launch the raids in Diyala near the Iranian border in the last several days.

An Iraqi security expert gave a slightly different account, saying the strikes took place 10 days ago.

"It is true that Iranian planes hit some targets in Diyala. Of course the government denies it because they have no radars," Hisham al-Hashemi told Reuters.

(Sidebar: then again, Iran is leading the US around by the nose. It's a good thing Obama agreed to meet these guys without any pre-conditions.)

Under no circumstances will Premier Wynne allow proven sources of energy to alleviate the needs of Ontario consumers and the costs associated with them:

Ontario's concerns about the environmental impact of the proposed Energy East pipeline narrowed considerably Wednesday following a meeting between Premiers Kathleen Wynne and Jim Prentice of Alberta.

Ontario and Quebec had set out seven principles for the $12-billion pipeline project, which would carry western crude to refineries in eastern Canada, the most notable relating to its potential impact on climate change.

But after meeting Prentice in her office, Wynne said her concerns were limited to greenhouse gas emissions from the pipeline project itself, not from the so-called upstream emissions resulting from getting the crude out of the ground, refining and burning it.

This is the same government that cancelled gas plants at a great cost, has put up inefficient, land-hogging wind turbines and wants to institute a carbon tax which is just a tax on the poor.

Two alleged members of a group listed as a terror organization on both sides of the border are seeking asylum in Canada, the U.S. Homeland Security chief told a House committee Tuesday.

DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson revealed that two self-proclaimed members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, recently fled to Canada after facing deportation from the United States.

Then deport them.

Hockey legend Jean Beliveau has passed away:

Jean Beliveau, a Hall of Fame ice hockey player who won 10 Stanley Cup championships with the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens, has died. He was 83.

And now, have a chocolate Christmas.
