Pressing a Button

Because people will come to resent the peer pressure exerted on their thought process. "What? You think Jesus was divine! Ha ha ha! You're a dork!"

It all smacks of Grade Seven.

It's one thing to spontaneously laugh at someone for a dumb belief.

It's quite another to systematically mock people as a strategy to eliminate religion from the world.

People want spirituality. They want to look to the transcendent and the supernatural.

Atheists act like this is some kind of unnatural or irrational aspiration, and that wanting those things are a mark of stupidity or weakness.

This happens:

“Reasonable people don't make assumptions on the intelligence or beliefs of religious adherents.
They don't? If you told me it was your sincere and deeply held religious belief that every night a god manifests itself in your room to turn your socks bright pink for the duration of your sleep, I'd be off making all kinds of assumptions. So would any other person. And that would be entirely reasonable.”

“And to all you religious people out there: Do not worry. Whatever I say about you that ruffles your feathers, I'd mock you much harder if you were anti-vaxers, and homeopathic practitioners etc.”

“Well congratulations. WE are still here, as well, even after all you've done to US, including torture and death-as-entertainment-for-the-church-and-warning-to-everyone-who-tries-to-think-for-himself.

And who are WE? Everyone who isn't you, who is tormented and subjugated and despised by you, who is murdered and converted and hated by you, who is told he is not good enough because he doesn't think like you.

You wanna keep this up? You've only been doing it for two thousand years. You think you can last another two thousand?”

(Sidebar: the Romans have killed better people than “WE”! It’s these kinds of comments that make you glad you’re not on drugs.)

“It's also a mark of the astonishing level of stupidity that religion promulgates on its subjects that they think atheism is a religion...LOL!”

(Sidebar: that’s pretty easy for you to say when you have other people do your talking for you. But I digress…)

Did you see that? Did you see the speed and venom with which that anti-deist blow was dealt?

That’s because the third tine on the trident of post-modern fundamentalism is militant atheism (the other two being environmentalism and Islamism). It’s smug, vicious, arrogant, paranoid, easily offended, irrational, and all you need to do to bring it out is press a button.

Like this:

There is a war on Christmas, a profound hatred of Christians and Gregor Mendal had a better grip on biology than Charles Darwin.

Watch the fur fly.

Just read the above comments from actual atheists. To them, it stands to reason that if you believe in God/Jesus/Shiva/Allah/Thor/Worf or any other higher being you are naturally leery and phobic of vaccinations, the actual age of the Earth and any bit of technology in everyday use. It’s this kind of fatuous, emotionally retarded mocking that apparently passes as well-rounded arguments for people who like to think they are bursting with rationality. I happen to love technology so much that I kept my lights and appliances on for Human Achievement Hour (called Earth Hour by the environmentalists). I’m also absolutely dotty about vaccinations, having kept me alive during childhood. Thank God these things- and music, literature, philosophy and law- were created by all those believers out there. What would life be without them?

Well maybe the militants can fill me in on that, when they are not banning Christmas pageants in schools that is.

It is not simply an inability to believe in any god. It is that they think their non-belief makes them better than anyone else. A superiority complex isn’t the sign of a rational mind seeking or concluding. It’s the sign of a self-assured, arrogant one. It is one that believes it can be the monster it claims to abhor. If no man or government can tell another man what to believe or not believe, what does it profit the militant atheist to do so? Leave the ads off the buses, the billboards over the roads and forget about ruining Christmas for the kids. It’s not enough that there are believers who may one day fall off the wagon. They must be non-believers now. Militant atheists must affirm their own worth now, even at the expense of religious feeling or even personal or institutional liberty.

Don’t let the militants on about their arrogance, though. It upsets them. Let them congregate in front of the US Supreme Court waving Richard Dawkins’ latest book about and singing their non-church hymn, “How Great thou Aren’t”, all by candlelight.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

"Gregor Mendal had a better grip on biology than Charles Darwin."

People keep forgetting that true "Darwinian evolution" is actually very close to "Lamarqian evolution" and what people believe today, is actually based on Mendel's work.

Just look up "pangensis," which was a theory of Darwin.
